In a world full of distractions, choosing to date with intention has been one of the most powerful things my husband and I have done for our relationship. We created 2 Love By Design to help couples like us carve out sacred time to connect, grow, and have fun without waiting for a “perfect” moment.

From our free list of 50 Date Night Ideas, here are our 5 favorate dates that stood out in our journey. Each one left us smiling, reconnected, and grateful.

1. Themed Movie Night In (Budget-Friendly + Cozy At Home)

We didn’t need a fancy setup, just a little creativity. We turned our bedroom into a mini movie retreat, complete with candles, a cozy charcuterie board, buttery popcorn, and a glass of Chianti. We picked an action movie we both enjoyed and snuggled in for the night. It was simple, romantic, and exactly what we needed.

Tip: Choose a theme (Italian night, 90s throwback, superhero showdown), match your snacks, and make it cozy!

2. Stargazing & S’mores Night (Faith-Based Date)

This one was extra special because we used it as a moment of reflection — not just on life, but on God’s creation and His love for us. We made s’mores, laid out a blanket under the stars, and simply talked. We were quiet at times, just holding hands and taking it all in. It reminded us that love doesn’t always need to be loud — sometimes, it’s in the stillness.

Tip: Add a devotional or scripture reading to make it even more intentional.

3. Exploring a Botanical Garden (Outdoor Adventure)

We visited Bok Towers Garden in Polk County, FL — and let me tell you, it was breathtaking. We took the El Retiro tour, wandered through the garden paths, snapped photos, laughed, and talked for hours. The fresh air, beautiful scenery, and lack of distractions made it one of our favorite dates yet.

Tip: Try visiting during golden hour for the most romantic light and photo ops.

4. Helicopter Ride Over Kissimmee (Luxury Experience)

This was a first for my husband, and seeing the look on his face was priceless. Flying above Kissimmee gave us a whole new view of our hometown — and our relationship. It was exciting, romantic, and something we’ll never forget.

Tip: Plan the ride around sunset for a breathtaking golden view and get your picture taken and have it frame to cherish the memory.

5. Cheering at a Sports Game (Creative + Fun Date)

We went to see the Osceola Magic play basketball — and learned that we’re both way more competitive (and sporty!) than we thought! We were screaming, high-fiving, and completely in the moment. It gave us a new way to connect and a memory we still laugh about. Sports dates are great for bonding — and discovering fun new sides of each other!

Tip: Turn it into a mini competition by picking opposing teams or making playful bets like who buys dessert after. Wear team colors, take selfies, and let loose! It's a great way to break routine and bond through fun energy.
